Description
This beautiful Shattuckite slab from Namibia measures 6.5 inches long X .25 inch wide X 4.5 inches high
Shattuckite from Namibia is primarily composed of the mineral shattuckite (a copper silicate hydroxide), but often occurs alongside other associated minerals like chrysocolla, plancheite, malachite, azurite, cuprite, chalcocite, native copper, and sometimes even dioptase, all contributing to the vibrant blue color of the polished stone; these minerals are typically found in varying amounts depending on the specific location within Namibia’s copper deposits.
Shattuckite is a relatively rare mineral that was first discovered in 1915 in the Shattuck Mine in Bisbee, Arizona. It’s named after the mine, which was founded in 1904 by Lemuel Shattuck.
